Earlier in the week, the 15-year-old's mother found her daughter lying naked on a couch with Mario Astudillo-Mendieta, who she believed was her daughter's friend, Guttenberg police said in a release. Following a verbal dispute, Astudillo-Mendieta and the girl left the home, police said.
The girl did not possess a cell phone and the mother had no way of contacting her, police said. Officers were able to locate Astudillo-Mendieta's cell phone to Sayreville and discovered they had stayed in several motels, police said.
Astudillo-Mendieta and the girl were located in Sayreville and transported back to Guttenberg, police said. Astudillo-Mendieta was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual conduct, police said.
Astudillo-Mendieta was lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center, police said.
